Ielts task 2 housing

Often the idea of accommodation, housing comes up in IELTS so it is worth brainstorming some vocab on the subject. Here is an idea worth preparing for:

government should tackle poverty by building more affordable homes

What do you understand by the word ‘affordable’ here?

Here is a part of an answer to the question. Notice how the highlighted language keeps the ‘theme’ consistent; therefore the topic coherent:

‘Providing poor people with subsidized housing can solve the problem to a certain extent. This kind of accommodation will serve as shelter for poorer people and they will no longer need to worry about harsh winters, heavy rain, and hot summers outside. Therefore, providing state housing helps those people who cannot afford to buy their own house, and in this way, they would be able to manage their lives in a better way. Also, the construction industry plays an important role in the economy of every country, and this is because many people can be employed in this sector. This not only keeps down the inflation in this industry but also increases the possibility of employment in society that can result in a strong economy and reduces poverty level.

Although it is important to provide housing services for poor people, this should only be considered as a short-term solution. A long-term solution should be creating more employment opportunities for poor people and training them with appropriate skills to do the job. This solution can help people earn more income and thus reduce the level of poverty in the countries. Poverty can be better eradicated by imparting their kids a good education, teaching them skills to earn a livelihood, improving their standard of living’

What’s your opinion on this tricky subject?

I have seen the frustrations that students have with IELTS from a career where I have actively guided and corrected students’ studies. I am looking for the most effective ways to teach IELTS as I understand students’ needs.
